August/September 2010
Lev and Nefesh
The New Year seems to have snuck up on us once again! It hard to believe that we are entering our fourth year together. Time sure does fly by when you are having fun with an entire youth department. This year our goals and programming have both increased in a significant manner. For the third year in a row, we will be having a large and all inclusive Shabbat dinner and songful (camp like) service as a Youth Department. In addition, this year there are going to be more ice cream socials, travel opportunities, dances, sub-regional and regional events, and many more activities that should leave your children and teens wanting to participate more often. There will be another Chalutzim sleepover for the youngest members of the Youth Department as well as an end of the year Mystery Bus Ride for our Kadimanicks and USYers.
Something special to look forward to this December is…International Convention! Guess what?!?!?! The convention coming to South Florida for a visit with our chapter. What you may not know is that our youth group’s reputation and enthusiasm has netted the very honorable distinction of hosting pre-convention activities! This is an incredible honor that is not just given to any youth group chapter but given only to those chapters that earn the respect and admiration of international board. This is a huge undertaking and not only requires the dedication of our youth but also requires the assistance of the Temple Beth David community. There are many ways to help make sure that the youth traveling from Illinois and Wisconsin have a memorable experience. First, we are looking for families to host some of our young guests as well as their staff. There are eighty (80) youths ranging from ninth to twelfth grade, and six (6) staff members that at least twenty years old. As usual, volunteers are always needed! Please let me know if you are interested in helping in any capacity.
Please look for your 2010/2011 Calendar and Membership Forms to arrive in the mail in the next few week and if you have any questions please let me know or stop into the office to pick up any information. Remember to get all forms in as soon as possible so that you can feel the pride of our successful chapter within the local and larger community!!!
