This course will examine the Jewish ideal of civility within our modern society. Specifically, we will look at different modalities of private and public speech and behavior in the Jewish tradition to determine if it can address issues of language and division in our age. We will also look more closely at the meaning of Lashon Ha'rah and it's possible place in the context of social media. Finally, we will study the texts which address healing speech.
