Bar/Bat Mitzvah
B'nai Mitzvah
Becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah is a big deal at Temple Beth David. Students read from the Torah (the scroll of the Five Books of Moses), chant Haftarah (a selection from the books of the Prophets), offer a d'var Torah (a word of teaching), lead t'fillot (prayers) and more.
The first step in preparing for your Bar/Bat Mitzvah is to determine when you turn 13 according to the Jewish calendar. Click here to find your 13th birthday on the Hebrew calendar.
Next, we need to decide when you'd like to celebrate your becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah. In addition to thinking about timing for family and friends who may be traveling in for your celebration, you should also choose a Torah portion that speaks to you. Take a look at this list of Shabbatot (plural of Shabbat) and their corresponding Torah portions. You can click on each portion to learn more about it.
Please contact Rabbi Bensimhom to meet and complete your Date Selection Form. Call the Temple for an appointment at 561-694-2350.
